Who are the parties in a Civil case?

The Plaintiff is the party and person who starts the claim and files a Writ of Summons.

The Defendant is the other party against whom the claim is made.

There can be more than one Plaintiff or Defendant in any claim. The Plaintiff must serve the Writ of Summons on the Defendant after the approved copy of the Writ of Summons is issued by the Court.
